Important info about mountain lions
"People are the most likely to encounter cougars in areas frequented by mule deer and during the early morning and at dusk, when cougars are most likely to be hunting." - Darren DeBloois, Utah DWR
Most active at dusk and dawn

This is when they hunt
Deer are their main prey

There are deer around Timp
They will often hide dead prey at the base of a tree

They will cover it with leaves, dirt, or snow. This is a sign cougars are around.
Prevent encounters with cougars
Do not hike or jog alone

Travel with others & keep everyone together

Make noise by talking or clapping every now & then as you're hiking

Kind of like "Hey Bear!" but "Hey Cougar!"
If you encounter a cougar
Stop. Never run from a cougar

Maintain eye contact

Stand up tall - make yourself look big by waving your arms or jacket

Pick up children and pets or keep them very close

Talk firmly in a loud voice, back away slowly, & leave the area

FIGHT BACK as hard as you can if you are attacked! Protect your head & neck
