TRAIL HEAD
TERT volunteers staff the trail head shacks at Aspen Grove and Timpooneke Trail Heads from Friday afternoon through mid-afternoon Sunday.
Two trail heads
Throughout the season, TERT team members are stationed at the Timpooneke and Aspen Grove trail heads from approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday through Sunday mid-afternoon.
Communication coordination
The trail head staff are certified radio operators and maintain communication between High Camp, Stewart Falls, both trail heads, and the Utah County Sheriff's Office. They regularly check in with Sheriff's dispatch to relay crucial updates. They facilitate information flow to the High Camp Team, alerting them about hikers ascending the trail. Moreover, the High Camp Team often relies on their watchful eyes to ensure the safe descent of specific individuals.
Support for hikers
Beyond their communication duties, the Trail Head Teams are the friendly faces that interact with hikers starting their hikes. They offer valuable insights on trail conditions, weather updates, distances, necessary equipment, and trail etiquette. This interaction fosters a sense of community and ensures that every hiker is well-informed and prepared for their adventure.
Stay in campgrounds close by
The Trail Head Teams typically camp at one of the improved campgrounds near the shacks, creating a close base for their operations. This strategic placement allows for quick responses and effective coordination. Family members of trail head volunteers can also stay at the campgrounds during the weekend.
